Scally & Trayers Funeral Home is independently owned and operated by James Leo Trayers, Jr., a licensed embalmer and funeral director since 1966. James, Jr. is proud to follow in the footsteps of his late father, James Leo Trayers, Sr. and his granduncle, John J. Connolly who started the family business of caring for Boston’s families from his location in the historic South End in 1896.
James, Sr. joined the business when he returned from serving in Germany after World War II and later purchased the funeral home from Mr. Connolly in 1957, bringing his son, James, Jr. into the family business. After 40 years, James, Sr., retired in 1982.
When James, Sr. retired, James, Jr. purchased the Scally Funeral Home in Dorchester where he continues to serve the families of Boston as the Scally & Trayers Funeral Home with courtesy, respect and compassion. The history of the Connolly and Trayers families stretches back into Boston’s history for more than 115 years.
